Exploring the Caribbean (9 days & 8 nights)

On this tour you will explore the Southern and Northern Caribbean Coast. First you will travel to Turrialba where you will feel a drastic change in the climate. You will experience the exciting white water rafting on the Pacuare River meanwhile you enjoy the changing ecosystems, landscapes and wildlife of this area. Next, travel to Port Limon and Puerto Viejo on the Southern Caribbean coast, where you can find white sand beaches, tropical forest, and plenty of wildlife. A wonderful adventure will take us to the Tortuguero National Park, the largest nesting site of green sea turtles in the Western Hemisphere, this protected rain forest habitat also has a large number of wild animals that can be seen while on boat tours.
Day 1 - Arrival in San Jose
Our representative will meet you at the Juan Santamaria International Airport, and transfer you to your hotel in San Jose. Meals are not included on Day One. Lodging at Hotel San José Palacios or similar.
Day 2 - San Jose/ Turrialba.
After breakfast, we will start our adventure traveling to the town of Turrialba, through beautiful agricultural landscapes, where dairy farming and vegetable production has become part of the scenery. We'll visit the Turrialba's most important attraction which is the Guayabo National Monument, the most significant archeological site in Costa Rica. After lunch check in your hotel and you will have the afternoon free to relax.. Dinner and overnight at Casa Turire or similar.
Day 3 - White Water Rafting on the Pacuare River
(class III-IV-V).

You will have an early morning pick up at your hotel in Turrialba . At Tres Equis we will switch to 4x4 shuttle to take you down to the put-in location. Total drive time to put-in location is approximately 1 hour. After an orientation and safety instructions, you will raft down one of the most scenic rivers in the entire world. The journey, through unspoiled jungle wilderness, offers an adventurous ride filled with stunning natural beauty and exciting rapids. The Pacuare is a swift-running and rapidly changing river. You'll make your way down miles of remote rapids, past steep canyons where cascading waterfalls plummet hundreds of feet to the river below. There will be a picnic lunch on the riverbank. Total river time is approximately 4 hours depending on the water level.

Next we will continue our travels to the Port city of Limon on the Atlantic Coast. Settled by immigrants from Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands, it is the cradle of Afro-Caribbean culture in Costa Rica. We will continue our travel tour around the city and stop to enjoy of the atmosphere . We will then continue driving south to Cahuita and Puerto Viejo, famous for its beautiful white sand beaches, turquoise water and extensive coral reef protected by the National Park. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Shawanda or Similar.





Day 4 - Puerto Viejo / Manzanillo.
After breakfast, we will visit the Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge. At this refuge you might catch sight of a manatee, one of the largest and most elusive aquatic mammals in Costa Rica. You may also find crocodiles and caimans. The Refuge is a good place for those who want to observe a coral reef and all its abundant forms of life. Return for lunch, afternoon leisure to enjoy your Lodge. Dinner & lodging at Hotel Shawanda or similar.
Day 5 - Puerto Viejo / Port Moin /Tortuguero.
In the morning after breakfast, we will continue our adventure through the Tortuguero Canals. You will be transferred to a boat especially designed to travel through the canals, so sit back, relax and marvel at the natural surroundings. On this journey you will be able to see monkeys, crocodiles, river turtles, birds and slots. Next, check into your lodge (Iguana Verde or similar). Following lunch, we will visit the Caribbean Conservation Corporation's Visitor's Center. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight. From July to September there is an optional tour at night where you can watch a green sea turtle lay her eggs on the black sand beach ( optional for $10).
Day 6 - Tortuguero.
In the early morning we will tour the Caños & Lagoons, where you may see mammals and different species of birds. Return for lunch, free afternoon for optional activities. Dinner and overnight at Iguana Verde or similar.
Day 7 - Tortuguero/CañoBlanco/Braulio Carrillo/San Jose.
Alter breakfast, board your boat and depart to Caño Blanco Port, where a bus will be waiting to pick you up for a drive back to San José. When you arrive to Caño Blanco first, we will drive through a banana plantation and you will have an opportunity to see the cutting and packing process of this tropical fruit for export. Next we will stop for lunch on the way to Guapiles and then we'll drive through the spectacular Braulio Carrillo National Park, which is a combination of rain and cloud forest that has over 6,500 species of plants and animals, innumerable rivers and waterfalls. Check in to your San Jose hotel in time for an afternoon rest. At 7:00 pm we will come to pick you up for dinner and a celebration. Overnight at Hotel San José Palacios or similar.
Day 8 - San Jose / Juan Santamaria International Airport.
Your tour package includes return transportation to the international airport, or you may choose to stay longer and enjoy a few more days with us in Costa Rica.
