Magic Costa Rica (10 days - 9 nights)

This tour will allow you to learn about Costa Ricas's history by visiting the Gold Museum, you will also be able to have a glimpse of the country's culture by; visiting;Cartago, the old capital city of Costa Rica.; Then you will travel northwest to see the impressive Poas Volcano, where you can hike through a cloud forest, enjoy the magic Monteverde Biological Reserve and the impressive fireworks at the Arenal Volcano.; You will also journey to the Northern Caribbean Coast through Tortuguero National Park which is a beautiful rain forest, it's also the largest green turtle nesting site in the Western Hemisphere. This tour is specially designed for those adventurous people who wish to see as much as possible of the six provinces of Costa Rica namely; Cartago, San José, Alajuela, Puntarenas, Guanacaste and Limón.
Day 1 - Arrival in San Jose
Our representative will meet you at the Juan Santamaria International Airport and you will be transported to your hotel.  Overnight at a San José area hotel.  Meals are not included on day one.  Lodging at Hotel Bougainvillea or similar.
Day 2 - San José. Introducing you to the country culture and history.
After breakfast you will visit Cartago, the old capitol of Costa Rica, Here you will learn about some of the history, crops and traditions of Costa Rica. Following lunch we will return to San José and visit the Culture Square, the market place and the National Museum for a further understanding of our culture and history. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. Lodging at Hotel Bougainvillea (or similar).
Day 3 - Poas volcano / Monteverde.
In the morning after breakfast your tour guide will pick you up for a drive to Poas volcano, on the way to the summit you will travel past country towns, highland forest and fern & flower plantations. You will also have the opportunity to stop at a coffee plantation to learn more about this important Costa Rican agricultural crop. beautiful flowers and exotic birds to a nearby crystal blue lagoon. On the cool 8,600 ft. summit, we will visit the Poas Volcano and Visitor's Interpretive Center. The impressive active volcano which occasionally vents has a crater lake 1,000 ft. deep by 5,000 ft. wide. You can also hike through tropical ferns and cloud forest filled with After lunch we'll continue our adventure by driving to the Pacific Lowlands on the Pan-American Highway. At the turnoff to Monteverde, we will begin the ascent back up into the mountains, driving along a gravel road with views of hillside pastures and beyond to the Gulf of Nicoya. Ones you check in your Monteverde hotel you will have some free time to relax.. Dinner and overnight at Fonda Vela Hotel or similar.
Day 4 - Monteverde.
After breakfast, you can experience the exciting sky track or the sky walk (optional tour for $ 55). The sky track adventure is a system of three platforms suspended above the ground in the midst of the forest canopy. Zip lines attached from one platform to another allow you to slide with the use of special equipment. The sky walk is a network of suspension bridges and trails built within the Monteverde cloud forest. It allows different observational levels to admire the flora and fauna starting at the forest ground and ending at the tree tops. It consists of seven suspension bridges, the highest being 46 meters (150ft) and the longest being 300 meters (984ft). You will be able to observe and appreciate a tropical forest from different vantage points. Return to your hotel for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon you will visit the Butterfly Garden, where butterflies and other insects are raised and displayed in screened enclosures with tropical gardens, the local coffee mill, where you can purchase the best Costa Rican coffee; the CASEM Gift Shop, an artisan's cooperative featuring hand made local work with nature themes; and the Hummingbird Gallery, where feeders attract a wide variety of hummingbirds in overwhelming numbers. Return to your hotel for dinner. Lodging at Fonda Vela Hotel or similar.
Day 5 - Monteverde / Arenal.
In the early morning you will enjoy a guided excursion to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. This 30-acre cloud forest is located at the continental divide between the Caribbean and the Pacific watersheds. It is protected by dense foliage, and it is possible to see some of the 400 species of birds (including the quetzal), 100 species of mammals, and 300 varieties of orchids that thrive in this environment. After a midmorning breakfast, you will travel with your guide for approximately 2 hours to the Arenal Volcano, famous for its lava flows. We will stop for lunch at the picturesque town of La Fortuna, then continue our drive to Lake Arenal, arriving at your hotel in time for an afternoon rest. Following dinner and weather permitting, prepare for a night tour to view volcanic activities. Lodging at Montaña de Fuego or similar.
Day 6 - Arenal.
After breakfast, enjoy a parade, sitting in a Costa Rican typical ox cart that will also take you through the farms to learn about the different crops of the zone such as; plantains, cassava, papaya and others. After lunch you will travel to the Tabacon Resort hot springs for a bath in mineral waters from the volcano. You then may wish to relax before dinner, then return to your hotel for overnight. Lodging at Montaña de Fuego or similar.
Day 7 - Arenal / Tortuguero.
In the morning after breakfast we will travel to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui and continue to the port of Caño Blanco. Here we will transfer to a boat especially designed to travel through the canals. Sit back, relax and marvel at the natural surroundings. Next, check in at your lodge in time for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon you will tour the Caribbean Conservation Corporation's Visitor's Center. Return to the lodge for dinner. Lodging at Iguana Verde or similar. From July to September there is an optional tour at night where you can watch a green sea turtle lay her eggs on the black sand beach (additional for $10).
Day 8 - Tortuguero Caños and Lagoons.
After breakfast we will tour the caños and lagoons of the Tortuguero National Park to search for wild animals and get in deep contact with nature. You will be able to see monkeys, toucans, caimans and if you are lucky you may see the manatee which is the biggest mammal that lives in the ocean but, who comes to the river to look for food. Return for lunch, free afternoon for desired activities such as: fishing, canoeing, hydro biking, shopping, etc. Dinner and overnight at iguana Verde or similar.
Day 9 - Tortuguero / Caño Blanco / San Jose.
After breakfast, you will board a boat for the 11/2 hour return trip to the port of Caño Blanco. A bus will be waiting for you there to take you back to San José. We will stop for lunch on route to Guapiles, then we will continue driving through the spectacular Braulio Carrillo National Park. This Park is a combination of rain and cloud forest that has over 6,500 species of plants and animals and innumerable rivers and waterfalls. Upon arrival in San Jose, you will be driven to your hotel, where you will have time to rest and freshen up. We will come back to pick you up at 7:00 pm for farewell dinner and celebration.
Day 10 - San Jose / Juan Santamaria International Airport.
Your tour package includes return transportation to the international airport, or you may choose to stay longer and enjoy a few more days in Costa Rica with us.
