Welcome to Iguana Verde Ecological Tours...
Tortuguero Canals 3 days & 2 nights
Travel to the Northern Caribbean coast to the Tortuguero National Park, the largest nesting site of green sea turtles in the Western Hemisphere. This protected rain forest habitat also has a large number of wild animals that can be seen while on boat tours. In this journey you will also have the opportunity to see the Braulio Carrillo National Park and further down the banana plantations.
Day 1 - San José / Caño Blanco / Tortuguero
In the morning after breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel for your trip to Tortuguero. First, we will drive through the spectacular Braulio Carrillo National Park, which is a combination of rain and cloud forest that has over 6,500 species of plants and animals, innumerable rivers and waterfalls. We will continue on route to the Caribbean coast and when we get to the town of Siquirres we will drive through a banana plantation. There you will have an opportunity to see the cutting and packing process of this tropical fruit for export. When you arrive at Caño Blanco you will be transfered to a boat especially designed to travel through the canals.

Sit back, relax and marvel at the natural surroundings. Tortuguero is a network of navigable lakes and canals crossing the North Atlantic coast of Costa Rica. This park protects the most important nesting ground for the green sea turtles in the Western Hemisphere (the nesting season is from July to September). The canals serve as a waterway for exploration and transportation, and are extremely rich in flora and fauna. You will be able to admire the humid tropical forest, birds, monkeys, crocodiles and turtles, among many other animals. Next, check into your lodge (Iguana Verde or similar). Following lunch, we will visit the village of Tortuguero and then tour the Caribbean Conservation Corporation's Visitor's Center. Return to lodge for dinner. From July to September there is an optional tour at night where you can watch a green sea turtle lay her eggs on the black sand beach ($15).

Day 2 - - Tortuguero.
After breakfast, we will tour the caños and lagoons of Tortuguero National Park, where you may see monkeys, toucans, and caiman in this lowland tropical rain forest excursion. Following lunch an optional hiking tour of Tortuguero Hill is available where you will be transported to the base of the trail by boat. Accompanied by a tour guide you can climb the mountain and enjoy a view of the entire National Park. Or you may choose other activities such as fishing, river kayaking, or canoeing (optional). Return in time for dinner. Lodging at Iguana Verde or similar.

Day 3 - Tortuguero / Caño Blanco / San José.
